The celestial bodies of all the national flags of the world were combined to form a starry sky. The 204 flags of the countries of the world stand for national pride, borders and claims to ownership. Nevertheless, the countries share a common planet, a common atmosphere, a common firmament. To symbolize this unity, Anwander chose the national flag - in itself symbols for what separates - as the connecting element. The “Union Jack” of the British fits almost seamlessly into the national flags of Burkina Faso, Armenia, Tajikistan and the smallest republic on earth - the island nation of Nauru in the Pacific Ocean. The national flags of Nepal, Namibia and Venezuela are on an equal footing with the "Stars & Stripes" of the USA. However, you have to look carefully to assign the flags with certainty. Only the celestial bodies of the national flags shine bright white on the black background. This creates an abstract night sky that unites all the countries on earth to form a harmonious constellation of stars. The viewer is encouraged to navigate from country to country using the celestial bodies and to perhaps get lost in distant galaxies. [....]
